PUNCH Online reported on Monday that as part of his tradition of giving back to the community, Davido announced a ₦300m donation to support orphanages and a charity focused on combating drug abuse among young people across Nigeria.
In a statement through his foundation, the David Adeleke Foundation, the singer reiterated the organisation’s commitment to making a difference in the lives of vulnerable individuals across the country.
The statement signed and shared by Davido on Thursday morning read, “In line with its unwavering commitment to supporting underserved communities across Nigeria, the David Adeleke Foundation proudly announces another impactful year of charitable giving.
“Since its establishment in 2022, the Foundation has remained steadfast in its mission to create a positive difference in the lives of vulnerable individuals. This anniversary is yet another reminder of the transformative power of collective goodwill.
“Over the past few years, DAF has spearheaded life-changing initiatives, donating substantial funds to hundreds of charities and orphanages across the country. These contributions have directly enhanced the lives of thousands, reaffirming our core values of compassion, equity, and sustainable community support.”
The statement added that this year’s N300m donation will go towards helping orphanages, as well as providing resources for programs aimed at curbing drug abuse and addiction among Nigerian youth.
It added, “This year is no exception. As we celebrate another milestone, the Foundation will be donating the sum of N300m to charitable causes across Nigeria.
“These include donating to orphanages and a charity that helps young people stay away from drug abuse and addiction. From aiding grassroots projects to supporting vulnerable communities, the ripple effect of these efforts is a testament to the profound impact of collaboration and kindness.”
The singer has since been receiving an outpouring of praise and well wishes from fans in celebration of both his birthday and generous donation.
Davido’s philanthropic efforts are not new, as this is not the first time he has supported orphanages in Nigeria.
In February 2024, Davido announced a ₦300m donation to orphanages across the country.
Similarly, in November 2021, PUNCH Online reported that Davido donated ₦250m to 292 orphanages in commemoration of his 29th birthday.
In July 2023, the musician also donated ₦237m to over 400 orphanages in Nigeria.
